The estate

Domaine BERTHENET is located in Montagny-les-Buxy, in the south of the Côte Chalonnaise. Since its creation in 1974, the Domaine has grown over the years with the acquisition of agricultural land and woods which have been mainly replanted with massal selection vines. Born into a family of wine growers for over 4 centuries, Jean-Pierre Berthenet took over his parents' estate in 1991. Driven by his passion for wine and the terroir, Jean-Pierre became a pioneer of sustainable viticulture. His approach aims to let nature do its job, with limited use of chemical treatments, maintaining grass cover on the plots, and ploughing only at the foot of the vines... Working with the cooperative until 2001, he decided to become an independent winemaker in 2002. He therefore built his own vat room and started vinifying and maturing his wine himself. He was joined by his son, François, in 2009. Today, the domaine covers 20 hectares of vineyards, mainly for white wines, and produces a wide range of Montagny Premiers Crus.
