The estate

A family-owned business since 1938, the Xavier & Guillemette BESSON estate is situated in Givry, at the centre of the Côte Chalonnaise in a fortified building dating from the Middle Ages. The superb rib vaulted cellar is classified as a historical monument and hosts concerts each summer during the 'Musicaves' festival. Since 1989, Xavier and Guillemette BESSON took over the management of the family business, deciding to bottle most of the production on the estate. They grow 9 hectares of Givry white and red wines, Village and Premier Cru appellations, as well as Premier Cru Beaune red wine. Their focus is placed on the management of the vineyards, using sustainable agricultural methods: mechanical ploughing controlled yields, manual harvesting, strict sorting of the grapes... In the wine warehouse, the processes remain traditional, avoiding excessive human intervention. Xavier Besson summarizes the personality of his wines as follows: "I try to create open and pleasurable wines that can be enjoyed young. As for reds, I prefer beautiful tannins, with fruit, a lot of fruit."
